To further support your recovery, patients can also be referred for one-on-one consultations with a Clinical Psychologist, Psychologist, Counsellor, Drug and Alcohol Therapist, or a Clinical Dietician.
We draw upon a range of different therapeutic approaches to facilitate recovery. Yet only use those that are supported by hard science, thus providing you with the best possible mental health treatment solutions. Every choice we make is based on you, as we get to know you as a person and use our experience to determine the best solutions for your recovery.
Evidence based skills
Gordon Private Hospital’s group therapy programs cover a range of topics.
Intensive Assessment, Evaluation, And Treatment Planning
While mental health challenges do have similarities, we believe that the only way to recovery is to get to know you. That is why we incorporate detailed assessment strategies, along with expert evaluation to make sure that you are properly diagnosed. Once we have determined the best course of action, we’ll create a detailed treatment plan to ensure you’re ready for recovery.
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) Skills Training
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, or DBT, is a therapy that helps those that struggle with their emotions to learn to understand and regulate them. Issues DBT treats include, depression, self-harm, addictions, posttraumatic stress and those with emotional dysregulation. Often people who see little or no improvement with other therapy models may be assisted by DBT Skills Training.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is one of the most highly regarded forms of therapy in the scientific community. It is highly effective for anxiety disorders, depression, and many other mental health presentations. It addresses both thoughts (cognitions) and behaviours to guide you to recovery. It is also action focused, providing tools to continue to manage your mental health in the future.
Psychoeducation
We’ll help you understand what you’re struggling with, and provide you with information on the treatment so that you’re ready for the road ahead.
Problem Solving Skills Training
We all like to believe that we are able to solve all of our problems logically, but the truth is that problem solving can be challenging – especially when we struggle with our mental health. Our group therapy program can provide you with information and strategies to assist in problem solving, helping you make better decisions throughout your life.
Communication Skills
Part of learning to cope with the stresses of each day starts with learning how to communicate more effectively with others. This includes both listening and understanding what other people say, while also communicating our own needs. Those that struggle with social anxiety can also learn how to speak more confidently with others.
Distress Tolerance
Many mental health conditions lead to feelings of distress. But distress itself can also drive us back towards our emotional and physical vices. It becomes important to learn distress tolerance as a way to prevent relapse of mental health recovery. We will help patients learn better strategies to cope with feelings of distress.
Self-Harming Reduction & Management
Self-harm, including both physical and emotional, may be used as a coping tool for distress. We will work with you to help control the urge to self-harm, and to manage emotions that relate to the action of self-harm.
Self-Esteem & Confidence
When we feel more confident in ourselves, the ability to take on mental health challenges becomes easier. That’s why we work on self-esteem and self-confidence here at our mental health hospital. For issues like social phobia and depression, self-esteem and self-confidence can strengthen the recovery process.
Mindfulness Skills Training
Mindfulness is believed to be an important strategy for emotional regulation. We employ skilled practitioners of mindfulness skills training, so that our patients are able to be more aware of the present and less focused on the past and future.
Nutrition
What you eat directly affects the structure and function of your brain and, ultimately, your mood. Our dietician can help patients with a healthy diet that is good for your overall health.
Art Therapy
Art therapy, and other forms of emotional expression, has been found to help those struggling with mental health learn to express themselves in a way that can be examined and discussed within the context of recovery. Art Therapy can assist to reduce stress and anxiety, better manage behaviours and increase self-esteem.
Exercise
Being in good fitness can also cause you to feel stronger mentally. Gordon Private Hospital therefore pays a lot of attention to finding a good balance between exercise and relaxation. Consciously following a daily routine with physical activity and moments for relaxation together with healthy eating patterns, ensures energy and balance.
Pharmaceutical Interventions
Pharmacotherapy is a treatment with medication that can potentially be prescribed to support your psychological treatment. This therapy can include newly prescribed medication, and also repeat prescriptions or the reduction of medication you’re already taking.
Relaxation
Relaxing is harder than it sounds. Especially with an active mind. Our specialists will walk you through not only relaxation exercises, but also ways to turn your mind off and find some relief from the pressures and stresses around.
Improving Sleep
Sleep, like nutrition and exercise, is critical to stress control and mental health recovery. We educate patients about the importance of the sleep wake cycles, circadian rhythms, and other sleep science and provide skills that help our patients get the rest they need.
Relapse Prevention
Setbacks happen. One of the reasons that mental health can be hard to treat is that anxiety, grief, stress, and other emotions are a fairly normal part of a healthy life. But for those overcoming mental health challenges, these setbacks can be distressing and disheartening. We’ll focus on ways to both avoid relapse and respond to setbacks.
aftercare
Mental health is ongoing. During your admission we will make sure you have the tools that you need to continue to prioritize your mental health after discharge.
